AND SO WE BEGIN

October 02, 2017

The moment I received this brief I was equal parts apprehensive and excited. The former because I had no clue what a zine entailed and how I'm going to pull this off in six weeks, but excited because after a long summer I've been given a project with a quick turn around that I can just sink my teeth into.

Within the first couple of days I began narrowing down my selection of subcategories to base my zine on, however there's more of that to come in my next post so be sure to check that one out.

I also really looked into the different styles of zines, because boy is that a vast new world I've been opened up to? There's s much room to be as broad or as niche as you want, so much room for design and style that I'm likely to have about four drafts at the end of this that I'll endlessly tweak until the last available minute.

Hello, perfectionist over here.
During my first week of research I got a little more hands on in terms of visiting places. With a Bristol trip already booked for the end of the week, I managed to take a little detour to Here Gallery which is a fantastic little shop on Stokes Croft (which is the liveliest and most artistic street I think I've ever seen!).

I had a chat with the gent in the shop who informed me that they only stock comic style zines, however there are such a vast range of categories and themes out there for zines. It was insightful though and I made sure to document everything I found because who know's what comes in handy especially in terms of design?
