IT'S ALL IN THE AESTHETIC
October 03, 2017
If there's one word in modern culture that is so overly used, it's aesthetic. Does that mean I'll stop using it? Not a chance.
In all honesty, I'd made a Pinterest board (and pinned a crazy amount of images) long before I'd even decided on my sub-culture. To me, half of the battle is knowing how to tackle the visuals and design process, the rest usually comes naturally.
Through the past few years, I've found that I'm really drawn to handwritten styles, abstract ways of piecing information, and photos, together and basically anything that looks creative and hands on.
On the flip side I love anything really clean cut and minimal, but that really won't fly for me this project. I don't think.
I threw this little mood board together after some searching, and this ideally will be my reference point throughout the design process. However, I know how I work and how my mind changes like the wind, so it's likely you'll see a few more of these babies before I'm finished.
This piece seriously is so aesthetically pleasing (full piece in effect can be found here), from the positioning of the images to the colours and the paint strokes filling odd background space, I'm in heaven.
I'd love to recreate something similar, but first I must make sure that I have the space to work in in the actual zine, there's no use creating great content that can't be - hold that thought, I've got it!

What I've found through my initial visual research is that I have a style, I have a certain vibe that I'm appealed to and that's what I want to share within my zine. These are all so vastly different in appearance, yet if you look closely and dissect them, they're all actually pretty similar but with a different story to tell, and message to convey.
No doubt you'll see more of my visual inspiration sometime soon.
